Govinda and Madhuri Dixit were once among the most beloved on-screen pairs in Bollywood. Believing it to be the better opportunity for her career at the time, Madhuri chose Uttar Dakshin over ‘Sadaa Suhagan’ — a decision that deeply upset Govinda. Ironically, ‘Sadaa Suhagan’ went on to become a box office hit, while Uttar Dakshin failed to leave a mark.Later, in an interview, Madhuri addressed the controversy, saying she did what she believed was best for her career and insisted that she would’ve made the same decision again. At the time, Govinda reportedly told the makers that he would not work with Madhuri, even going as far as to issue an ultimatum: either he stays in the film, or she does.It was only after the intervention of veteran actor Rajesh Khanna, who was also part of the film and someone Govinda deeply respected, that he agreed to go ahead with the project.
