When love, memory, and legacy come together under one roof—that’s exactly what happened at the intimate wedding of Prateik Smita Patil and Priya Banerjee. The couple chose to tie the knot at the late Smita Patil’s Bandra home earlier this year, not just for sentiment but because of a powerful, emotional dream that Priya experienced—one that made them feel as though the legendary actress herself had guided the decision.
Why the home wedding mattered
During an interaction with Nayandeep Rakshit, Priya shared that having a home wedding was important to her and something she was firm about from the start. Prateik Smita Patil added that their decision to marry at his late mother Smita Patil’s Bandra residence was also influenced by a dream Priya had, in which Smita appeared and asked her to hold the ceremony in the house. The couple saw it as a powerful sign and ultimately chose the intimate setting over a larger celebration.
A dream open to interpretation
Banerjee gently corrected Prateik’s version of the story, clarifying that the dream wasn’t as direct as he made it sound. She explained that while the dream did take place, it wasn’t a clear message from Smita Patil, but more of a strange, emotional moment that left her feeling strongly that the wedding should happen in that house. For her, it was less about literal words and more about intuition—trusting what the dream meant to her personally.

Honouring Smita Patil’s presence
After her dream, Priya felt the house was deeply important to Smita Patil, who had once hoped to live there with Prateik. She believed marrying in that space would honour Smita’s memory and make her presence felt. The couple said all 42 guests at the ceremony also felt her presence. For Prateik, it was a full-circle moment.Smita Patil passed away in 1986 due to childbirth complications, just 15 days after Prateik was born. He is the son of Smita and veteran actor Raj Babbar. However, Raj and his side of the family—including Prateik’s half-siblings Arya and Juhi Babbar—were not invited to the wedding.
