‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ has released today along with another sequel, ‘Dhadak 2’. While the first installment of ‘Son Of Sardaar’ had released in theatres in 2012, it did reasonably well but it clashed with Shah Rukh Khan‘s ‘Jab We Met’. It was one of the biggest clashes in Hindi cinema on a Diwali weekend and it also created a rift between Ajay and Yash Raj Films. This time around, the clash isn’t as big but the film is competing with another YRF movie which actually released two weeks ago – ‘Saiyaara’. This film with newcomers created a euphoria and has collected Rs 270 crore so far at the domestic box office. However, it’s not just ‘Saiyaara’ which may give a tough competition to the new releases. Son Of Sardaar 2 Movie ReviewBoth the new releases,’Son Of Sardaar 2′ and ‘Dhadak 2’ are heading into a difficult weekend at the box office. Things were already tough with ‘Saiyaara’ doing strong business, but now ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ has come out of nowhere, adding more pressure on these two sequels. Infact, ever since ‘Mahavtar Narsimha’ has picked up, even the collections of ‘Saiyaara’ have started to slow down. Even the advance bookings of both the new movies is low. ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ sold 28,000 tickets in advance booking while 18,000 tickets of ‘Dhadak’ were sold. ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ has released in about 2500 to 3000 screens. Thus eventually, on day 1, the film may open at Rs 6.5-7 crore at the box office. This number may increase over Saturday and Sunday, if it manages to have word of mouth. Normally, sequels benefit from the curiousity of the audience, but that only helps if the trailer, music, or buzz is strong — which isn’t the case here. Neither film has created the kind of pre-release excitement needed to pull crowds on the first day. The dull advance bookings reflect this, with ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ slightly ahead of ‘Dhadak 2’, though still underwhelming. In fact, ‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ is expected to post better numbers on its second Friday than Son Of Sardaar 2 will on its first day.On day 1, till the afternoon shows, the collections of ‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ are Rs 1.12 crore. Meanwhile, the collection of ‘Dhadak 2’ so far is Rs 79 lakhs. According to Box Office India, ‘Dhadak 2’ might get some weekend support from younger audiences, especially after the recent success of Saiyaara, but that doesn’t always translate into box office success. The audience hasn’t really changed — they still respond to good content and big appeal, not just fresh faces. The release timing also couldn’t be worse. These films needed a quiet period to fight for space and attention, but instead they’re releasing in the middle of strong competition. If only one of them was releasing this weekend, it might have gotten better screen time — especially a film like Dhadak 2, which depends more on evening shows. In the end, both films are likely to end up behind Saiyaara and Mahavatar Narsimha this weekend. Unless there’s a big turnaround over Saturday and Sunday, it’s going to be a rough ride.‘Son Of Sardaar 2’ also stars Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, Kubra Sait, Deepak Dobrial among others.
