Yuzvendra Chahal has finally spoken up about the viral moment that grabbed headlines during his divorce proceedings with Dhanashree Verma. The cricketer appeared at his final hearing wearing a striking T-shirt with the words “Be Your Own Sugar Daddy”, sparking widespread buzz across social media.Until now, Chahal had remained tight-lipped about his split from the choreographer-influencer. But in a recent conversation with Raj Shamani on his podcast, he opened up about what led to that bold outfit choice and gave rare insight into what went on behind the scenes.
Chahal says t-shirt wasn’t for drama
Chahal made it clear that the slogan on his shirt was not meant to create drama, but to deliver a quiet, personal message, “Meko nahi karna tha drama, I just wanted to give one message and mai ne vo de diya.” (I didn’t want to create drama. I just wanted to give a message, and I gave it.)
Cricketer responded to something from her side
Chahal hinted that his move was a direct response to something that came from Dhanashree’s side during the divorce process. While he chose not to go into the exact details, he did say, “Kyunki saamne se kuch cheej hua tha, aur mera pehle mann nahi tha. Fir saamne se kuch hua toh fir mai ne kaaha ab sambhaal lo ab mujhe nahi parwah kisi ki. Mai ne na kisi ko abuse kra, bus mujhe message dena tha.” (Because something happened from her side, and initially I wasn’t planning to do anything. But when something happened from the other side, I said, ‘Now handle it, I don’t care about anyone anymore.’ I didn’t abuse anyone. I just wanted to give a message.)
Divorce decision followed financial agreement
Speaking about the financial aspect, Chahal said the deal was already signed when he decided to move forward and end the marriage. It was clear he wanted to close that chapter swiftly, “I had signed a good deal.” Though he didn’t go into numbers, Chahal made it known that something during that time period had further convinced him to go ahead with the symbolic T-shirt on hearing day.
Couple kept things quiet on social media
While their personal life was clearly going through major changes, Chahal admitted that he and Dhanashree had agreed to avoid showing signs of trouble in public until the divorce was finalised. When asked whether he was faking the marriage in front of fans, he gave a direct and honest answer,“Yes.”

Chahal also shared when he last communicated with Dhanashree. According to him, it had been several months, and their conversations since the split had only been about formal matters. He explained, “Jo last time baat hui thi, woh bhi hamari lawyer ke through hui thi, I think September something, kuch hamara tha. Nahi, auction se pehle to ho hi nahi rahi thi. Par jo last time video hua tha, uske baad kabhi baat nahi hui. 6-7 mahine ho gaye honge. Matlab sirf kuch kaam ka tha, to kuch cheez hogi to. Bas uske baad nahi.” (The last time we spoke, it was through our lawyer,I think sometime in September, something came up. No, we weren’t talking before the auction at all. After the last video interaction, we never spoke again. It must’ve been 6–7 months. We only spoke if there was some official work, that’s all. After that, nothing.)He added that after the World Cup, things ended completely and there was no personal communication unless necessary, “I think after the World Cup, 19th July, tab se to bilkul hi done ho gaya tha. Woh pehle se bhi chal hi raha tha, par wahan se properly start ho gaya ki ab end hi ho raha hai. Haan, chheh-saat mahine ho gaye honge, matlab sirf kuch kaam ke liye agar zarurat padi to hi baat hui.
